(Night: Car drives up to the academy. Merrill and Essie are watching T.V.)
Merrill - Cute... isn't he?
Essie - Cute? He can make me hot for more then just blood.
(On T.V Damon walks in. Damon walking around room and everyone is looking at him.
Malcolm passes him)
Damon - Hey!
Malcolm - Hey...
(In Cellar: Drew walks over to girls)
Drew - Something of interest?
Essie - Yah, a mortal specimen finally worthy of our study.
Drew - What's so special about him?
Essie\Merrill - (laugh)
(Lobby: Damon sees Sherry walking with a friend to library. Sherry looks back at
him and then again. She goes into library)
Essie - Okay... I'm leaving. He's a hottie and I just broke a sweat.
Marty - Well I do have that effect on people.
Essie - No, what you do is make my skin crawl. (Leaves)
(Library: Damon looks to Sherry who is at bookshelves. She takes a book and looks
to Damon. In Cellar: Drew, Marty and Merrill watching T.V of Sherry and Damon)
Marty - And here you thought she was the one, your destiny. All them fickle twist
of fate. (Drew leaves)
Merrill - Must you always torment people?
Marty - I can turn my tormenting talents to you if that's what you want. (Merrill
hands Marty the remote and leaves)
(In Cellar: Marty sits at table alone watching T.V. Murdoch in his office.)
Dr. Murdoch - In the vampire world, there is very little trust. The vampire
comes to expect betrayal; it becomes basic to their nature.
Merrill - Marty! What have you done with Bella? (She holds up cage to Marty and
puts it on table)
Marty - Bella?
Merrill - My pet rat.
Marty - Look, normally rodents aren't my first choice for a power beverage, but
I was thirsty.
Merrill - You're sick, you know that?
Marty - Chill out, Merrill. I didn't touch your sad excuse for a child substitute.
Merrill - And you're getting sicker.
Marty - All right, I may be a lot of things, but rat-napper ain't one of them.
(Merrill takes cage and leaves)
(Day in Lobby: Sherry sits on couch reading when Damon comes in and leans on the
couch behind Sherry)
Damon - It gets better in the last act. In the last act the evil Iago proves to
be a master deceiver, convinces Othello to kill his true love Desdemona. Tragic. I like Romeo and Juliet better.
Sherry - Oh thank you for ruining the ending!
Damon - How about thanking me for saving you 2 hours of reading.
Sherry - Excuse me for asking, but... who are you?
Damon - Damon. Damon Grismer. I'm new.
(Down in Cellar: Drew goes over to Marty)
Marty - Take a seat... She looks great...and uh...he's circling in for the kill.
Sherry - Well...Damon, what special problem brings you to Mansbridge?
Damon - Not a problem. Just my hippie dippie mother. She's a big fan of alternative
education. She's convinced I’ll find my center here. In her eyes, I'm an over achiever with no sense of spiritual self
worth.
Sherry - And what do you think?
Damon - She's probably right.
Marty - Well it appears they have chemistry; pretty soon they'll be joined at the
hip.
Damon - There's more to life than straight A's. Right? And there are certainly
other desirable qualities to Mansbridge.
Sherry - Such as...?
Damon - Clearly you for one.
Sherry - Um look. I really do need to understand this for tomorrow. So I should
probably finish reading it.
Damon - Sure, sorry. I wasn't trying to hit on you or anything.
Sherry - No, no it's not that. Really, I have to read the book.
Damon - Then can I make a suggestion?
Sherry - Sure.
Damon - Shakespear.com. You do have online computers in the library, right? Then
come on... 'cause parting would be such sweat sorrow. (She closes her book and they go)
Marty - Oh ouch. Yet another reference to Romeo and Juliet. That, that, that's
gotta hurt.
Drew - Marty, you can back off, or I can make you back off.
Marty - I'm just callin' 'em as I see 'em.
(In Library: Damon and Sherry walk in. Malcolm is at a computer. The two sit down
and Damon sees what Malcolm is doing)
Damon - Paranormal predatories.com I love that site.
Malcolm - You do?
Damon - Sure. Werewolf’s, vampires...
Malcolm - You believe in them?
Damon - Absolutely.
Malcolm - Uh! To me, it's all scientific. You see I believe that vampires are humans
that are infected by an extertrastal parasite that feed off human blood.
Damon - Ever see one?
Malcolm - A real vampire? I wish... You?
Damon - I wish.
Sherry - Not me. Too scary.
Marty - This is not looking good for the home team.
Drew - Marty...shut up.
Malcolm - If you want I can show you my collection of vampire books. I bought Marian
Hackett's latest, "The biological killer". Do you know it?
Damon - No. Is it good?
Malcolm - Highly readable, and creditable. She's the head of the B.P.D.A.
Damon - B.P.D.A? What's that?
Malcolm - The Biomorphic Predatory Disease Agency. Agent Hackett is convinced that
there's vampires living right under our noses.
Damon - Really? (Marty gets up from table and walks over to Drew)
Malcolm - Yeah!
Marty - Hmmm. Well, that's probably about it. You know, it's too bad they don't
got camera’s in the dorm rooms, we might be able to watch them doing a little of the ole...
Drew - (grabs Marty) Zip it! (He let's go)
Marty - You gotta admit, he's a piece of work.
Drew - There's something about him that doesn't ring true.
Marty - Oh yeah, he's a gals guy and a, guys guy. I mean he's gotta be an alien
life form from another planet or something.
Drew - No, I'm telling you. He's not what he seems.
Marty - You might be right...nah. You're just a love-starved paranoiac with an
inferiority complex.
Drew - I'm gonna keep an eye on him.
Marty - Ah, that's right; you're also a glutton for emotional punishment. Well,
go knock yourself out, big guy. (Leaves)
Malcolm - And her evidence is very compelling.
Damon - Really?
Malcolm - Ya. Wait here, I'll go get the book. (Malcolm leaves. Damon turns back
to Sherry)
Sherry - Sorry. I should have warned you about Malcolm, he's a little bit of a
weird streak.
Damon - No, I like him. He's an original. Maybe I'll ask him to be my roommate.
Sherry - Oh he'd like that.
(Cellar: Drew watching the T.V. Merrill looking for rat on ground. Essie sitting
doing her nails.)
Essie - Something I can do for you?
Merrill - I'm looking for Bella.
Essie - Bella being your pet rat?
Merrill - Yes!
Essie - (picks up feet) Okay, are you a wear (Merrill stands) that I once had a
cousin who was discovered by a horde of rats in his coffin? Hum? Imperative word here being "had" because he was gnawed to
nothing by their million, sharp, nasty little teeth.
Merrill - (behind couch) Bella is one rat. One. Singular. Not a horde. And she's
friendly.
Essie - Well... just make sure you keep your little friends to your self-okay?
(Sherry's room: Sherry and Damon enter her room)
Sherry - And this is my dorm. (Damon shuts door)
Damon - Woa, that's big...
Sherry - Yeah. My roomie went away on tour with her dad for a few weeks, so I have
it all to my self.
Damon - Oh...
(In cellar: Drew mind travels to Sherry and Damon)
Damon - So you like it here at Mansbridge?
Sherry - It gets kind of strange sometimes...
Damon - How do you mean? (Sherry cleaning up)
Sherry - Just... strange.
Damon - Okay... define "strange." What you see things, here things? Phantoms in
the night? What?
Sherry - You'll think I'm crazy if I tell you.
Damon - Try me.
Sherry - I used to dream about somebody. (Sits on bed) And then I met him. He just...
appeared one night down in the library. I don't even know if he was real. You don't want to hear about this.
Damon - Yes. I do. I'm into this sort of stuff. So you only saw him once?
Sherry - Twice. Crazy, huh?
Damon - Here's my take on it. (Sits beside her) What's real is what's real to you.
What other people think... doesn't matter.
Sherry - Are you real?
Damon - Very.
(In cellar: Drew comes back from mind traveling and Essie goes over to him and
touches his shoulder)
Essie - And where were you just at?
Drew - None of your business. (Starts to leave)
Essie - Listen. (Walks over to him) She's finally over you. That's a good thing...
right? It's time for her to have some fun.
Drew - Are you taking cues from Marty now? Everybody has their dark side. Even
mortals. I'm telling you Essie, this Grismer guy is not what he seems to be.
Essie - Who is? Look at it this way...she could do worse. (Leaves)
(In Office: Karl and Drew looking at folders.)
Karl - He's from the east coast. Straight A's. President of the humanitarian’s
society. Star of the school play.
Drew - Says his mom's a big time photojournalist. Dad's a surgeon.
Karl - It's quite a pedigree. Sorry Drew. Looks like Sherry found the perfect guy.
Drew - Too perfect.
Karl - Drew, think you should give it up. (He leaves, Drew thinks back)
Sherry - Are you real?
Damon - Very.
(Drew leaves to the cellar. In cellar Drew goes to Merrill.)
Drew - I need you help.
Merrill - And I need your help. Bella's gone.
Drew - All right, I'll help you find your rat if you help me find mine. I promise.
(Later Drew is watching the TV. Damon is in the library working. Drew goes over
to Merrill. She's looking in mirror)
Drew - He's still in the library, you gotta hurry up.
Merrill - (putting on lipstick) I'm going as fast as I can. (Essie show)
Essie - Quite a bit of blush there, if I didn't know better, I would think you
were trying to go mortal?
Drew - She is.
Essie - What are you two up to?
Drew - Merrill's gonna read the new guys mind.
Merrill - Drew thinks he's got something to hide. But I have to get close enough
to him to read his mind. And he's new, so he won't suspect me not to be a day school student.
Essie - A colvertop...now this is starting to sound intriguing.
Merrill - How's this look?
Essie - Yeah you could pass. just be sure to keep your fangs in check. Oh and uh...is
he turns out to be a vampire, I get dibs.
Merrill - I'm ready.
Drew - Then let's go. (the two leave)
Essie - Ta-ta! (looks in mirror)
(In libaray: Damon is at computer. Drew and Merrill are at door)
Drew - You go check him out. I'll keep gaurd.
(Merrill goes in, she walks around. Drew hears noise and leaves as Sherry comes
down stairs to libaray)
Damon - So, you desided to come down after all?
Sherry - Yeah. (sits) Though I don't know if breaking curfew on your first day
is such a good idea.
Damon - We're in the libaray. What kind of trouble could we get into here? How
ever... we do have company.
Sherry - Really. Who? (Sherry goes to look, but Merrill is out of site. Sherry
goes back) No. Who ever it was must of left when you weren't looking.
Damon - So tell me again about your dream stranger.
Sherry - Hum, both mettings were here. in the libaray. He just appeared ...and
then he disappeared.
Damon - What do you mean by disapeare?
Sherry - He was jat gone.
Damon - Musta been tough.
Sherry - It was. (Marty goes over to Drew by door)
Marty - I could just kill him for you. That' be another solution.
Drew - Quiet.
Sherry - Hey, what, were you doing on the computer?
Damon - I was just uh, sending an e-mail.
Sherry - To who?
Damon - Unlike you... nobody important. (goes in for a kiss) Sorry. No kissing.
Rushing things. (Drew and Marty hear a door shut)
Drew - Let's go. (drew goes)
Marty - Come on man, I'll just take...
(Drew grabs Marty and leaves. Malcolm comes walking down stairs and goes over to
Sherry and Damon.)
Malcolm - Huh, hey... roomie? I've made some popcorn and I have a tape of the seldom
seen mexican Dracula ready for screening.
Damon - Popcorn and fangs, great way to end the day. Let's go, buddy.
(Damon packes up bag and he and Sherry leave while Malcolm gets Damon's walet and
opens it)
Malcolm - He's a B.P.D.A agent. He lied to me. (he leaves)
Merrill - We're gonna have to do something...
(Damon picking Murdoch's office door. Vampires are at chairs talking. Marty goes
from the T.V to the others)
Marty - Like I said before, let's just kill him.
Merrill - That's always your awncer, and it's always the wrong one.
Marty - Says who?
Essie - Hey mastermind, killing day students isn't on the coriculium.
Drew - He's not a day student, he's a spy.
Essie - With a drect line to Marian Hackett.
Merrill - Which means killing him is not the solution.
Drew - Because?
Merrill - Because the death or disappearence of a B.P.D.A agent means that Marian
Hackett's next visit will be nothing short of a vendetta.
Drew - So what do we do?
Karl - Specking of vendetta's, why don't we do what the mob does?
Essie - That would be...?
Karl - Make him an offer he can't refuse. Show him our power. Instill in him the
fear.
Marty - Scare tacket's!! I can do that.
(Damon opens the office door. He enters and walks over to Murdoch's desk.)
Damon - Come on blood suckers, show me a sign.
(He opens a file on table takes pictures of it. When done he turns around and Drew
is standing there.)
Drew - Boo! (Damon takes out camrea but Drew changes to Marty)
Marty - Cheese. (he goes fast to other side of Damon and takes camrea) Okay you
had your chance... (thows camrea to Karl)
Damon - I'm not afriad of you.
Karl - I would be. (speeds to Damon) I would be very, very...(crushes camrea) Afriad.
Merrill - Psst! (Damon turns to Merrill) If you say anything... (speeds to other
side) To anyone... We will find you. (he runs to door were Drew is)
Drew - You can't run... Cause we're wayyy to fast. (all four walking towards him)
Merrill - And you can't hide...
(Damon goes out door to see all 4 of them growling at him. Then essie pops up.)
Essie - ...because we're everywhere.
(Damon plows through them all but gets grabed)
Damon - I won't say a word of this, I wont, I won't, I won't. I was just doin'
my job, I swear!
(Malcolm waiting outside of Murdoch's office and Sherry comes out.)
Sherry - So... I'm guessing you heard...
Malcolm - About the Damon\David Capper... Yeah.
Sherry - I just talked to Dr. Murdoch and he told me that
he was a spy for Marrian Hackett. That woman.
Malcolm – He used both of us. I don’t wanna
talk about it. (They start to walk)
Sherry – Yeah, but for what?
Malcolm – Vampire info. He could of just asked…
but no… he had to pretend to be my friend.
Sherry – To both of us. But hey, I am your friend.
(Down in cellar: Essie on her bed coffin)
Merrill – I can’t believe he actually cried.
(Sits)
Essie – Blubber is more like it. (Essie gets up
to get brush) do you think he’ll tell anyone?
Merrill – I read his mind… believe me, he’s
not telling anyone. (Drew brings in rat)
Essie – Hew! (Goes back to her seat)
Merrill – Bella!? (Drew hands Merrill her cage)
Drew – We had a deal. Remember? You find my rat…
and I find yours.
(Sherry and Malcolm eating popcorn on couch. He steals
from her)
Dr. Murdoch – Trust… How can that elusive
virtue be acquired? (Essie, Karl, Marty playing cards) Friendships. Surly this is the first step in teaching vampire’s
to trust. Though what of the second step? (Drew and Merrill with rat) Where might the vampires trusting heart lead them?
Merrill – a little belly rub!
Drew – Hello! Hello!
